The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, written by Rachel Sheinkin is a musical about a group of spelling bee contestants that come from very different areas and each have their own individual stories. It contained themes of happiness and sadness while carrying the director’s vision of a Eurovision aesthetic. It was crucial to coordinate the makeup looks with the costumes of the production. Therefore, through the hair and makeup design, it was exceedingly important to portray each of the characters’ personalities while still demonstrating the Eurovision theme.
